Public holidays in the Czech Republic
In the Czech Republic the public holidays apply for the entire country. There are no regional holidays.
- 1st of January – New Year
- Good Friday
- Easter Monday
- 1st of May – May Day
- 8th of May – V Day
- 5th of July – Day of the Slavic apostles Cyril und Metoděj
- 6th of July – Day of the burning of Jan Hus
- 28th of September – Day of the Czech statehood (St. Wenceslas Day)
- 28th of October – Day of the founding of the Czechoslovak State
- 17th of November – Day of the fight for liberty and democracy
- 24th of December – Christmas Eve
- 25th of December – Christmas Day
- 26th of December – Boxing day
Stores with more that 200 square meters of shopping area must stay closed at following days:
- 1st of January
- Easter Monday
- 8th of May
- 28th of September
- 28th of October
- 24th December (stores could be open till noon only)
- 25th of December
- 26th of December
This regulation does not apply to pharmacies, petrol stations, stores at airports and railway stations, and to stores located at hospitals.
Trucks over 7,5 t in weight cannot drive on Sundays and public holidays between 1 PM and 10 PM.
During the summer school holidays (from 1st July till 31st August) trucks over 7,5 t are banned from motorways and highways in following time periods:
- Fridays from 5 PM till 9 PM
- Saturdays from 7 AM till 1 PM
- Sundays from 1 PM till 10 PM
This ban does not effect the transports of easily perishable good and transports of living stock.
